Catalog \ Medical Conditions \ Stimulating Herbs \ Circulatory Stimulants
Circulatory stimulants are substances that increase blood flow systematically. This increase in blood flow is not necessary due to in increase in the heart rate as some botanicals increase blood flow by changing the viscosity of the blood, thus allowing the blood to flow more smoothly through the vessels. Blood flows throughout the body to provide nourishment to cells as well as carrying dead or damaged cells and waste products away from areas of the body to the kidneys, where the body can eliminate them. By increasing blood circulation several things may occur; there may be an increase elimination of waste products, there may be increase heat to the periphery (skin) thus cooling the internal temperature of the body while warming the exterior, there could be an increase in heart rate, and/or there could be a reduction in pain. Like all stimulants it is important to remember that deficient blood flow could be a sign of weakness and simple stimulation could make matters worse, therefore if after using circulatory stimulants for a short period of time there is not a return to normalcy, it is recommended that you seek the advice of a qualified health care practitioner. Like all plants, those listed in this category have many other actions and choosing the best botanical for your needs rests on proper choices.

It is also know as an anti-hepatotoxic and antispasmodic “showed inhibiting for the replication of the hepatitis B virus, a slow-acting pathogen linked to liver cancer that is now carried by some 300 to 500 million people worldwide” (see studies). Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, where a massive search of the world’s herbal literature was initiated for plants used against jaundice (acute hepatitis) and other liver diseases. Phyllanthus turned up as one of the most promising for follow-up. The hope for Phyllanthus is to provide an abundantly available nontoxic alternative not only to treat the disease, but ideally to render carriers sero-negative for the virus so they won’t pass it on to others. Combined with vaccines, Phyllanthus, or perhaps other herbs combined, might make a significant contribution to the eradication of viral hepatitis (see studies).
